Michael Hoffmann

Stand-Up Comedian, Writer , Generation X Spokesperson

Who Is Michael Hoffmann?

Widely regarded as one of Stand-up Comedy’s most gifted writers and talented performers, Michael Hoffmann has had a career that has spanned for more than three decades.

Michael Hoffmann first stepped onto a comedy stage in 1990 and spent nearly two decades performing stand-up throughout the Midwest before stepping away from the spotlight in 2009. What followed was an unexpected 16-year hiatus from live comedy—a break long enough for the entertainment industry, technology, and audiences themselves to completely transform.

Now back on stage in 2026, Michael brings a unique perspective that few comedians can offer: the experience of performing in two entirely different comedy eras. Having worked clubs and open mics before smartphones, social media, and streaming platforms changed the business, he combines old-school stand-up sensibilities with fresh observations about modern life, technology, aging, family, and the strange world comedians now navigate.

In addition to performing live, Michael is developing a comedy-focused YouTube series documenting his return to stand-up after sixteen years away. His comedy blends personal stories, sharp observations, and the perspective of someone rediscovering the stage in a world that looks nothing like the one he left behind. Whether performing at clubs, theaters, or pop-up comedy events, Michael proves that sometimes the best comeback stories take a little longer to tell
